Famous singer and recording artist sensation Rihanna is making a long-awaited comeback to music with “Lift Me Up,” the lead single on Marvel’s upcoming sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

It will be the first new music released by superstar Rihanna in six years, according to Capital FM. The single is slated for release Friday, in advance of the movie, which hits theaters Nov. 11. The song is a tribute to the life and legacy of Chadwick Boseman, who died Aug. 28, 2020, and was written by Tems Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna and director Ryan Coogler, according to Variety. Rihanna briefly teased the single Wednesday on Twitter.

Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor

A press release issued by Marvel indicates the new song “ushers in the next era of Rihanna’s iconic career” and fans are eagerly awaiting the new music, according to Variety.

Göransson credited Rihanna for being a big influence on the development of the song.

“Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor,” Göransson said in a statement, according to Variety.

Rihanna is releasing “Life Me Up” under her own Westbury Road label, in partnership with Roc Nation, Def Jam Recordings and Hollywood Records. The movie’s soundtrack will be released in its entirety Nov. 4, and details surrounding the other tracks listed on the album have been kept tightly sealed, according to Variety. Göransson expressed the deep meaning behind the lyrics to “Lift Me Up.”

“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” Göransson said. “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them.”

All eyes are on Rihanna’s social media for updates on the release of future tracks.
