Indiana police arrested the driver of a semi-truck that overturned and spilled 40,000 pounds of mail onto a highway Monday.
The crash involved a 2023 Volvo truck and occurred on I-65, specifically along the southbound lane in the whereabouts of the 246.2 mile marker, according to an Indiana State Police press release.
The overturn occurred after the truck went off the highway, causing the trailer to break open, Indiana State Police wrote in the statement. The driver, Srdan Bezharevic, was medically cleared following a brief hospital stay but was allegedly found in possession of “a white, powdery substance.”

Police arrested Bezharevic, who faces two preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated, one at a class A misdemeanor level and one at a class C misdemeanor level. The driver also faces a preliminary charge of possession of a controlled substance, a level 6 felony, according to Indiana State Police.
The crash occurred at around 12:15 a.m. but cleanup efforts continued into rush hour, with a tow company utilizing two trailers in a process that required not only retrieving the truck but all of the mail, according to the Indiana State Police.
