Stephen Colbert announced Monday a sudden medical condition has forced the cancelation of “The Late Show” for the remainder of the week of Nov. 27.
The famous talk show host took to Threads to reveal his current health condition and added some humor to an otherwise serious situation.
“Sorry to say that I have to cancel our shows this week. I’m sure you’re thinking, ‘Turkey overdose, Steve? Gravy boat capsize?’ Actually, I’m recovering from surgery for a ruptured appendix,” Colbert wrote to his social media account.

His message then added more sarcastic humor to assure fans he was doing well amid the medical setback.
“Going forward, all emails to my appendix will be handled by my pancreas,” he said.
In spite of initially making light of his medical condition, Colbert took a moment to thank those who have helped him through this challenging time.
“I’m grateful to my doctors for their care and to Evie and the kids for putting up with me,” Colbert wrote.

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” was slated to air Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with an impressive lineup of stars scheduled to appear, including Barbra Streisand, Jennifer Garner, Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart and Baz Luhrmann, according to The New York Times (NYT). Fans quickly responded to Colbert’s post, wishing him well on his road to recovery.
Colbert canceled a number of shows in the middle of October while he recovered from COVID-19. It is not immediately clear when he will return or what his prognosis is following his surgery.
