Democratic New York Rep. Dan Goldman appeared to suggest Thursday the Hunter Biden laptop archive reported by the New York Post had been “manipulated” by outside actors.
Goldman floated the possibility the Hunter Biden laptop contents were manipulated during a back and forth with “Twitter Files” journalist Michael Shellenberger at a congressional hearing. “The laptop so to speak … was actually a hard drive that the New York Post admitted here was not authenticated as real. It was not the laptop the FBI had. You’re aware of that, right?” Goldman pressed Shellenberger.
“It was the same contents,” Shellenberger replied.
“How do you know?” Goldman snapped.
“Everyone has verified the same contents,” Shellenberger said as Goldman interrupted him.
“You have no idea. You know hard drives can be manipulated,” Goldman replied.
“Are you suggesting that the New York Post participated in a conspiracy to construct the contents of the Hunter Biden laptop?” Shellenberger asked, to audible laughter in the background.
“No, sir. The problem is hard drives can be manipulated by Rudy Giuliani or Russia,” Goldman said. He suggested there was evidence to back up his claim after Shellenberger asked for it.

Ahead of the 2020 presidential election, 51 former intelligence officials falsely claimed the laptop was a product of Russian disinformation in a letter published by Politico.
The letter was orchestrated by then-Biden campaign advisor and current Secretary of State Antony Blinken, former CIA official Michael Morrell, one of the letter’s signatories, testified to the House Judiciary Committee in April. Morrell said he signed the letter in part to assist Joe Biden with his presidential campaign against former President Donald Trump.
The Hunter Biden laptop contents have been verified by the Daily Caller News Foundation, The New York Times, The Washington Post and other news organizations. Former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski told the FBI in October 2020 the laptop contents were real, according to an FD-302 interview summary.

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley testified the FBI verified the authenticity of the laptop archive in November 2019 as part of the Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes and firearms possession.
Hunter Biden’s attorneys appeared to admit the laptop contents were real in a February letter to the DOJ demanding an investigation into Delaware repairman John Mac Isaac, who turned the hard drive over to authorities after it was left at his shop unattended for months, according to the New York Post.
Mac Isaac later sent a copy of the hard drive to Giuliani’s attorney, and Giuliani proceeded to send it to the New York Post, the outlet reported. Hunter Biden is now suing Giuliani and Mac Isaac over the dissemination of the laptop contents.
Hunter Biden is also suing the IRS for alleged illegal disclosures by Shapley and IRS whistleblower Joseph Ziegler.
