A doorbell camera captured the moment that a rideshare driver allegedly struck and killed a 2-year-old girl in a Houston parking lot Sunday, Fox26 Houston reported.

The girl, who was severely injured and brought to a local hospital in critical condition, later died of the injuries sustained in the alleged accident, according to Fox26.

“It appears the driver was dropping off a family with the toddler in tow. The passengers exited the vehicle and he evidently thought his path was clear, not knowing the toddler was in front of the vehicle. As he proceeded forward, he struck the toddler,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a Twitter post.

The video shows a chaotic scene as family members pull the alleged driver, later identified as Muhammad Khan by police, out of the car and assault him. (RELATED: Mother Allegedly Drove Over Son After Forcing Him To Walk Home From School: Report)

One family member apparently lands a right hand on Khan’s head before another appears to chase Khan out of the video’s frame. Gonzalez said in his Twitter post that Khan was also taken to the hospital, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

Khan was reportedly cooperating with police and showed no signs of impairment, according to Click2Houston.

Twitter users responded to Sheriff Gonzalez’s post by urging parents to “walk with your child, not behind or in front of you, especially a toddler.”

Another Twitter user criticized the parents for leaving their daughter unattended, writing, “The driver wasn’t at fault. The parents, however, were negligent as hell!! Watch your babies! It’s not the responsibility of the rest of the world, damnit!”

Police are investigating but currently, no charges have been filed in relation to the fatal accident or alleged assault, Fox26 reported.
