“The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg cut off her fellow co-host as she began to hint at praising former President Donald Trump during Tuesday’s panel.
Griffin moderately praised Trump for attending the wake of fallen New York Police Department (NYPD) officer Jonathan Diller, who died from a gunshot wound allegedly fired by 34-year-old Guy Rivera at a traffic stop.
“Because this past week he had a brief good political moment for a Republican. He attended the slain NYPD officer’s funeral to juxtapose what he was framing as Biden hobnobbing with celebrities,” Griffin said. “Choose what you like there, but for Republicans, it was good imagery.”
“Really…” Goldberg interrupted.

“And I’m asking that because I was so offended because this man—because you know who showed up and whether he was asked or not, this is a man who didn’t care what happened to the officers on January 6,” Goldberg said.
Griffin said Trump’s attendance at the service and framing of President Joe Biden’s absence were “smart optics.” She then said Trump “lacks the most basic instincts of impulse control,” referencing a photograph he posted to Truth Social of Biden tied up in the back of a truck.
Co-host Sunny Hostin added the former president portrays himself to be a “violent person” and a “bully,” and co-host Joy Behar said Trump “can barely put a sentence together.”
During Diller’s wake, Biden held a campaign event at Radio City Music Hall with former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton with the intent of raising $25 million. He called Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams to express his condolences over Diller’s death.
Trump accused Biden of being unable to support the police for political purposes and criticized him for allegedly not calling the slain officer’s family.
“I think that politically he can’t support the police. I think he’s also making a mistake, but I think politically, his base won’t let him support the police,” Trump said. “And I support the police, I would say at the highest level of any president by far, maybe double or triple,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade Friday. “And they knew that. That’s why when I walked into that funeral parlor, it was — it was like love. It was just — they want to shy away from it. They didn’t even call the family. They could have called. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know even a call would be, perhaps — I’m not sure they would take his call.”
During the wake of Diller, his widow and another mourner reportedly called out Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, telling her she was “not welcome,” prompting the governor to leave.
