“The View” co-host Joy Behar on Tuesday’s episode of the show chided a construction worker for supporting former President Donald Trump.
Trump currently leads President Joe Biden by 0.3% in the RealClearPolitics average of general election polls for a head-to-head matchup, with the lead growing to 1.8% when Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are included. “I saw an interview with a MAGA the other day that really blew my mind. These people will not be moved. There is no way,” Behar said. “I think it was a construction worker and one of these guys goes around talking to them and saying, he said to him, ‘Listen, do you – you’re voting for Trump.’ ‘Oh, yeah, he’s my man and all that stuff’ and then he said ‘did you know that he doesn’t pay his workers?’ And the guy goes, ‘I don’t think that’s true.’ He watches Fox. ‘I don’t think that’s true.’ ‘No, it’s really true. I can document it for you if you like’ and he goes and thinks about it. He says, ‘Well, even if it it’s true, they probably deserved it.’”
“This is a working man, a working man,” Behar continued. “How would he like it if Trump stiffed him? That’s what I’d like to know. These people need to understand he will also stiff you. You are not – what’s the word I’m looking for here – immune to Trump’s craziness.”
Trump reportedly only paid some contractors involved with the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City partial amounts, CNN reported in 2016.
The Trump Organization has said that the partial payments were due to job performance. “We believe in paying people when they do great jobs,” Eric Trump, an executive at his father’s company, said at a 2019 finance event organized by Yahoo. “And we get people paid incredibly quickly. And we pay contractors.”
Trump has reached out to the Teamsters and sought the endorsement of the United Auto Workers (UAW), who endorsed Biden. Biden currently has a 39.6% approval rating on the economy compared to a 57.8% disapproval rate, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls between Feb. 21 to April 2.
“He didn’t give a student loan debt the way Biden did,” co-host Sunny Hostin added. “He didn’t give people jobs the way Biden has. He hasn’t done any of the things, he didn’t even build a wall.”
