A massive fireball flew over New Jersey in the early hours of Wednesday morning, just days after a solar eclipse and surprise earthquake rocked the state.
Footage of the fireball shared on social media shows it whizzing over the Garden State around 3:43 am. A clip taken from what appears to be a security camera or possibly a doorbell in Wall Township, New Jersey. But reports also surfaced of the bright object flying over Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania, which seems like a lot of different places, the American Meteor Society (AMS) reported.
“This was the first time I ever saw this in my area,” one user wrote to AMS. “I have seen shooting stars but this was the first time I observed this.”
It seems that this time of year is perfect for cosmos lovers in New Jersey. In early May 2023, a 5 billion-year-old meteor crashed through a bedroom in the state. This most recent sighting comes just days after New Jersey residents were rocked by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter of the quake struck near Whitehouse Station and was felt throughout the Northeast, including New York City and Philadelphia.
Three days after the earthquake, a solar eclipse blanketed the same region for a few minutes in the mid-afternoon.
