Prince has been reluctant (to put it mildly) to embrace music’s digital age, refusing to release his music online, withholding his catalog from YouTube and iTunes, and even shutting down his official website. And the singer, who has the album 20Ten due later this summer, took the opportunity to articulate his frustrations with the internet in a recent interview with the Mirror.
“The internet’s completely over,” he said. “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it. The internet’s like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”
Someone needs to get Prince on Facebook. Once he gets a few pokes and tagged in a photo or two, he’ll likely be changing his tune about the wonders of the internet.
