A&M teams are wary of UT’s TV network deal with ESPN

COLLEGE STATION — Gary Blair has built a top 10 program at Texas A&M, in part by always keeping a close eye on the competition.

And the events of a week ago at rival Texas – when UT announced a 20-year, $300 million dollar deal with ESPN to start a Longhorns television network – certainly earned his attention. Not simply for the mega money involved but for its potential recruiting implications.

“If Brittney Griner was coming out of high school today, and all of a sudden they decided to televise eight of her home games, don’t you think that would put Texas a leg up in recruiting?” said Blair, A&M’s women’s basketball coach, of the current Baylor star.
