The Colombian government will soon sign a truce with Marxist narco rebels that will lead to the disarmament of both the terrorists and government forces, according to terrorist peace negotiators.
Guerrilla fighters of the FARC — Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia — are demanding that the Colombian military disarms in some parts of the country at the same time that they do. A truce is “days away,” according to the Colombian rebels.
Carlos Antonio Lozada — a leading rebel negotiator — has said that there, “must be a bilateral agreement in which both the State and the FARC make commitments in this area for the surrender of weapons, understanding that at no time are proposing that the state should disarm.” The rebel negotiator went on to say that the Colombian government, “must abandon doctrinal conceptions of the state that make weapons turn against the people,” according to Colombia Reports. This sort of an agreement would be a historic ceding of government power.
A disarmament and demobilization agreement will lead to the political integration of FARC rebels. As a part of the peace talks, the narcos are looking to ultimately establish themselves as a Colombian political party.
FARC fighters and the Colombian government have been engaged in peace talks since November 2012 in Havana, Cuba, which both sides agreed upon as a neutral arbiter for their discussions. Peace talks were supposed to have ended March 23 but the two sides missed their self-imposed deadline. Secretary of State John Kerry personally met with both the government and the rebels during President Barack Obama’s trip to Cuba in March.
