Republican nominee Donald Trump saw a staggering rise in support among black voters, according to a daily online tracking poll published by the Los Angeles Times Sunday.
Trump’s support among black voters nationally rose from a paltry 3.1 percent Sept. 10 to 20.1 percent Sunday. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton fell to 70.9 percent, down from her 96 percent plateau.
Trump’s overall lead rose to over 6 points in Sunday’s poll, earning 47.7 percent compared to Clinton’s 41 percent. Trump led with every age demographic in the poll, leading young voters 46.8 percent to Clinton’s 38.4 percent.
Trump also led with middle-aged voters, 47.4 percent compared to Clinton’s 41 percent. He carried the largest lead with voters over the age of 65 — earning 49.3 percent to Clinton’s 43.2 percent.
Clinton still led with voters who held a college degree, coming in at 48.7 percent to Trump’s 38.3 percent. But Trump dominated with the majority of income groups. Although Clinton carried an 8-point lead with those who made less than $35,000 a year, Trump substantially led with voters in every other wage group.
Latino voters held steady for Trump, maintaining 31.6 percent against Clinton’s 55.1 percent.
Clinton still led when voters were asked, “who do you think will win?” Forty-nine percent of voters think Clinton will win, compared to only 45.1 percent of voters who think Trump will carry the election.
President Barack Obama appeared before the Congressional Black Caucus over the weekend and poked fun of the Republian nominee, going further to say that it would be an insult to his legacy if any black voter supported Trump.

The daily tracking poll surveys roughly 400 people a day, and updates the numbers to retain a roughly 3,000-person sample. Results are weighted to match U.S. demographic census data. The poll did not publish a margin of error.
