Sam Wang, professor at Princeton University, ate a bug on live television after promising to do so if President-elect Donald Trump gained at least 240 electoral votes in the 2016 presidential election against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“This is a can of gourmet-style crickets. And gourmet from the point of view of a pet, I should say,” Wang, founder of the Princeton Election Consortium, told CNN Host Michael Smerconish Saturday morning.
Wang made the commitment to consume a bug in October.

“I think that the eating bug thing is itself sensationalist and it keeps us off of important policy issues, such as Supreme Court appointments,” Wang explained.
“So there are things that can happen to bring the country together, but I think the bug thing is not one of them, okay, so I just wanted to point that out,” Wang continued, right before asking Smerconish if he really wanted him to fulfill his own pledge.
“I kind of would, you know let’s like put it to bed once and for all,” Smerconish replied.
Much of the political world was wrong about what the outcome of the election would look like. Pollsters, pundits, analysts and members of the media even felt compelled to outright admit how wrong the majority of them were due to their blatantly inaccurate predictions.
“Like John the Baptist in the wilderness, he ate locusts and honey. So I regard myself as being in the wilderness a little. After all, I was wrong,” Wang said with his fork raised.
“A lot of people were wrong, but nobody else made the promise I did,” he continued before eventually scooping up a sugar-doused insect.
One of the very wrong ones, Wang had to eat his own words as well as some crickets.
