Democratic political operative David Brock has ambitious plans for his Shareblue platform, wanting to not only create a “Breitbart” of the left, but also a platform similar to Twitter “free of conservative trolls,” internal documents reveal.

The documents obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show that Shareblue laments conservative media’s ability to reach the grassroots, specifically the strong conservative presence on social media. “Shareblue will take back social media for Democrats,” the “antidote to Breitbart” memo about Shareblue’s “2020 plan” states.

Shareblue hopes to combat not only Trump but “corporate media” by relentlessly attacking the president and not seeking access. The memo claims “authoritarianism, kleptocracy, cooptation[sic] by Russia, and white supremacy are well within our sights, and we must fight back.”

Brock, though, has much more ambitious goals for Shareblue than just becoming an influential opposition media outlet. The memos says that Shareblue seeks to launch a “Twitter-like” platform that subscribers would have to pay a fee to participate on. Shareblue hopes that this platform would be “free from conservative trolls and harassment.”

The document also makes it clear that Brock doesn’t want these subscribers to pay just to weed out conservatives, as “impact and monetization are not mutually exclusive at Shareblue.”
