Police from Laurel, Md., ended up in a 22-mile car chase with a man that began on Tuesday evening and ended Wednesday morning in Washington, D.C.

Laurel police arrested 48-year-old Paul Pattison and took him back to Prince George County for detention Wednesday morning, The Baltimore Sun reports.

The car chase started after police spotted a white SUV that looked similar to a vehicle involved in fleeing a traffic stop on Feb. 18, according to Laurel city spokeswoman Audrey Barnes.

While Pattison initially pulled over Tuesday evening, he floored the gas as soon as an officer approached his vehicle.

“He took off as the officer approached the vehicle,” Barnes said. “Initially, there appeared to be some open warrants against him from Calvert County. … There are currently no open warrants against him.”

The chase continued for 22 miles into Washington, D.C., U.S. Park Police joined the chase and used spike strips just before Pennsylvania Avenue.

Pattison was finally stopped at the 2900 block of P Street, S.E., at which point he was tased by a U.S. Park Police officer and arrested. He was briefly taken to the hospital for treatment.

He now faces numerous charges, such as “fleeing and alluding police, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and suspended registration.”
