Jewish, Christian, and Muslim religious leaders joined together to protest on the steps of the Qatari embassy in Washington, D.C., Thursday, urging the nation to pressure Hamas on releasing the bodies of two Israelis who were killed three years ago.

“Hamas is a terrorist organization that runs the Gaza Strip and is in possession of the bodies of two Isreali soldiers captive since 2014,” executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington, Ron Halber, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

“Qatar gives Hamas hundreds of millions of dollars a year to keep them going, they couldn’t operate without that money,” he concluded.

The group is protesting that Hamas leaders haven’t returned the bodies of Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul since they were killed during an international cease-fire, an action the group claims is in violation of international law.

Imam Talib Shareef of The Nation’s Mosque in Washington, D.C., attended the event and added his voice to the list of those calling on the government of Qatar to pressure Hamas into releasing the bodies of the two men nearly three years after they were first killed.

A pro-Palestinian counter-protester also attended the event and confronted the imam on the streets to demand that he hold the Jewish group accountable for Palestinian deaths during the ongoing conflicts in Israel.
