The Oakland Raiders are reportedly interested in making Jon Gruden their next head coach.

Gruden previously coached there from 1998-2001.ESPN reported the following:

The Oakland Raiders are preparing to pursue ESPN analyst Jon Gruden with an offer so strong it could even include an ownership stake in the team, according to league sources.

Gruden will be tempted to accept it, according to sources, but would prefer not to make any decisions until the regular season finishes Sunday and the Raiders make a final determination on their current head coach, Jack Del Rio, who signed a contract extension last summer.

Well, it didn’t take long at all for the “Grumors” to fire up in the NFL after they failed to materialize for the Tennessee Volunteers. I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pretty hesitant to believe he’ll be back on the sidelines anytime soon.

We get these rumors every single year, and they have never once been correct. Call me crazy, but I think we should wait just a shade longer before we buy any hype.

Having said all of that, offering Gruden part of the team ownership is a big time game changer. He’s already making tons of money from ESPN, but the chance to own an NFL team sounds very appealing. If there’s one thing that could get this deal done, I would say it’s opening up a chance for him to snag some ownership.
