Two pro-abortion supporters will be sworn in to the U.S. Senate Wednesday, slimming the Senate’s Republican majority.

Alabama Democrat Doug Jones and Minnesota Lt. Gov. Tina Smith will be sworn into office on the Senate floor roughly at noon, according to NPR. Jones is the first Alabama Democrat to be elected to the Senate in 25 years and Smith’s appointment comes as a replacement for former Democratic Sen. Al Franken following his resignation after a sexual misconduct scandal.

Smith served as the public policy vice president at Planned Parenthood for Minnesota and the Dakotas from 2003 to 2006.

“The choice of Ms. Smith is particularly egregious to Minnesota’s pro-life citizens, who will have no representation in the Senate,” said Minnesota Citizens for Life President Leo LaLonde, according to LifeSiteNews after it was announced she would replace Franken. “Most Minnesotans are pro-life. They support greater protection for unborn human beings. Minnesotans need someone who will fight for justice for the most vulnerable among us, the unborn.” (RELATED: Al Franken’s Replacement Is A Former Planned Parenthood VP).

Minnesota taxpayers reimbursed Planned Parenthood roughly $458,600 for performing nearly 2,000 abortions on low-income women, and the abortion giant received close to $13 million in government grants from 2003 to 2005 while Smith worked at the abortion company, LifeSite reports.

Jones also supports a full range of women’s reproductive avenues, calling abortion a personal choice. “I fully support a woman’s freedom to choose what happens to her own body. That is an intensely, intensely personal decision that only she, in consultation with her god, her doctor, her partner or family, that’s her choice,” Jones told Al.com.
