President Trump guaranteed on Saturday that school shootings “will not happen again” if teachers proficient in firearms are allowed to carry guns into school.

Trump said that teachers or other employees allowed to carry guns into school must be “adept” at firearms and should have to undergo annual training.

“Armed Educators (and trusted people who work within a school) love our students and will protect them. Very smart people. Must be firearms adept & have annual training. Should get yearly bonus. Shootings will not happen again – a big & very inexpensive deterrent. Up to States,” the president wrote.

Allowing teachers to carry guns into schools has been one of Trump’s proposed policy changes in response to last week’s Florida school shooting.

The president on Saturday also retweeted a tweet he sent on Thursday calling for enhanced background checks and raising the age limit for purchasing certain rifles to 21.

“I will be strongly pushing Comprehensive Background Checks with an emphasis on Mental Health. Raise age to 21 and end sale of Bump Stocks! Congress is in a mood to finally do something on this issue – I hope!” Trump said.
