Musician Demi Lovato took responsibility for her drug addiction and encouraged others to do so as well.

Lovato opened up about her substance abuse issues during Thursday’s episode of “The Ellen Show.”

“Ultimately, I made the decisions that got me to where I am today,” Lovato admitted. “It was my actions that put me in the position that I’m in. I think it’s important that I sit here on this stage and tell you at home or you in the audience or you right here that if you do go through this, you yourself can get through it.

You can get to the other side and it may be bumpy, but you are a 10 out of 10, don’t forget it,” she added. “And as long as you take the responsibility you can move past it and learn to love yourself the way you deserve to be loved.”

Lovato also praised her new manager Scooter Braun for supporting her after he gave the singer, who has struggled with bulimia, her first birthday cake in years. (RELATED: Demi Lovato Announced As National Anthem Singer For Super Bowl LIV)

“…I was finally eating cake with a manager that didn’t need anything from me and that loved me for who I am and supported my journey,” Lovato said.

I am so impressed with Lovato’s ability to talk openly with her struggles. She can discuss the issues that she went through, with drugs, alcohol and eating disorders, and really help give others going through the same things hope.

Since Lovato’s accidental overdose, she has truly been an inspiration. She’s starting performing live again, even singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl this year. The things you can accomplish when you surround yourself with people who care is amazing.
