Matthew McConaughey and wife Camila Alves McConaughey personally delivered thousands of masks to frontline responders in Austin.

“Matt [McConaughey] and I were able to get approximately 80,000 masks, and it’s a combination of surgical masks and KN95 masks that will be distributed between Austin and New Orleans, where they were getting hit pretty hard as well,” the 50-year-old actor’s wife shared with People magazine in a piece published Friday. . (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

“It was important for us to make sure that here in Austin, not just the hospitals got them, but also the police department and the fire department as well,” she added. “In this moment, we’ve got to find ways to help both sides because they’re all on the front line right now and we can’t afford to lose any of them.”(RELATED: REPORT: Coachella Potentially Rescheduled To October Due To Coronavirus Fears)

The couple is working with Bethenny Frankel‘s disaster relief initiative BStrong. According to their website, “Due to the lack of medical and sanitization products in the marketplace, BStrong Gem is working directly with manufacturers to ensure the necessary items are sent to people and hospitals across the nation. We have committed to servicing up to 250 hospitals nationwide. With your help, we can get this PPE to those in need.”

In photos, we see the “Interstellar” star and his wife delivering the donated supplies to police and fire departments while donning masks.

“We’re doing in-person delivery because I need to know the quality control is there,” Camila shard. “We are delivering stuff to the Police Department in Austin, and then the Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department as well. We are making sure the Austin area is covered in that sense and then New Orleans will be getting them in just a few days.”

“This is not about raising the hand and saying, ‘Hey, I’ve put this much money in it,'” she added. “This is about raising the hand and making people aware that this exists. It took me over two weeks to find this cause, so it’s about raising the hand and saying, ‘This exists and guess what? Still time to help.’ And if you can’t help with this, find your own avenue where you can help and feel useful during this time.”

It is just the latest move from the McConaugheys. As previously reported, earlier this month the “Dallas Buyers Club” star and his family surprised residents of a senior living home as they hosted a virtual bingo night for the group.

McConaughey has been a constant voice of inspiration during the pandemic, saying that we should be “applauding ourselves” during this difficult time while encouraging people to stay home.
