Ron DeSantis Announces His Wife Has Cancer

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Monday that his wife and the mother of his three children has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

“I am saddened to report that Florida’s esteemed First Lady and my beloved wife has been diagnosed with breast cancer,” the Florida governor said in a statement. “As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as First Lady.”

“As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state,” he continued. “Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up.”

Casey and Ron DeSantis are parents to three children: 4-year-old Madison, 3-year-old Mason, and 18-month-old Mamie, who is the first baby to have been born in the Governor’s Mansion in over 50 years, the governor’s press secretary Christina Pushaw said in a press release. Florida’s 41-year-old first lady has spearheaded Hope Florida – A Pathway to Prosperity, the Resiliency Florida initiative, the Hope Ambassadors program, “The Facts. Your Future” campaign and the Hope for Healing Florida initiative.

The governor’s office said it could not yet share more information about Casey DeSantis’s diagnosis.
