Dorothy Frame, an employee at Fort Campbell’s Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, is suing a labor union that forced her to pay dues in violation of her Catholic beliefs.

While Frame is not a member of the Laborers’ International Union (LIUNA), she is required to pay dues which are used to promote the union’s pro-abortion stances, according to a statement from the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, which is providing her free legal aid. “LIUNA officials have put their arrogance and callousness on full display by forcing Ms. Frame to choose between losing her job and severely compromising her religious beliefs,” said National Right to Work Foundation (NRTW) President Mark Mix. “Denying an individual a simple religious accommodation is a clear violation of federal law, and Foundation attorneys will fight for Ms. Frame until she gets one.”

Frame told the union that funding their activities made her complicit in the sin of abortion in violation of her religious beliefs in a July 2019 letter, according to the NRTW statement.

The union’s attorney reportedly told Frame that her understanding of her own faith was inferior to his and sent her and her priest remedial church readings, according to NRTW.

The union supports abortion nationally through its membership in pro-abortion groups including the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations and The Leadership Council on Civil and Human Rights and through support for political candidates who promoted abortion while in office, according to a letter from Frame’s attorney to LIUNA.

Attorneys brought Frame’s case to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee, charging union officials with religious discrimination, harassment and demanding a refund of dues seized in violation of her faith.
