Daily Caller field reporter Jorge Ventura spoke to Hispanic voters who say the Democratic Party “abandoned” them and has lost touch with their values.
Ventura interviewed Hispanic voters in Texas who expressed frustration with the Democratic Party over its handling of the U.S.-Mexico border, the economy and cultural issues. One voter said the values of the Hispanic community align more with Republican Texas Rep. Mayra Flores than the majority of the Democratic Party.
“The key word I get from speaking to Latino voters is ‘abandoned.’ So when I was down there, they said the Democratic Party has abandoned us, they haven’t been in here in 40 years,” Ventura told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Tuesday. “One voter mentioned to me that when he goes to the congressional office just to speak to a candidate about the issues, no one’s there anymore. And the reason that, for Congresswoman Mayra Flores, her message has been resonating with these voters is because she speaks ‘God and country’ which they can connect.”
“All of Hispanics around America are overwhelmingly middle class, working class folks, so they’re getting hit hard with inflation and they feel that Democrats are not serving their economic needs, and as well the border crisis,” he added. “That’s an issue that really impacts all those border towns and it’s really fascinating because all these border towns are overwhelmingly Democrat but there’s these huge swings like we’ve never seen before.”
He described that Hispanic voters want a strong border and fear that a mass influx of illegal immigration will hurt their economic opportunities. (RELATED: Border Patrol Agents Recover Deceased Migrant’s Body For From Rio Grande)
“The reason why they support the strong border, legal immigration is because they want to protect their wages,” he said. “Illegal immigration actually hurts Hispanic workers all over the country and those wages are not seeing that growth there. It’s a true humanitarian crisis what they’re seeing, they’re completely overwhelmed.”
Border apprehension numbers reached a new record after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) encountered 227,000 migrants in September. The agency has recorded nearly 2.3 million migrant encounters since October 2021, the beginning of the 2022 fiscal year.
The record migration numbers have devastated border communities, which have limited land and resources to tackle the crisis. In Eagle Pass, Texas, authorities are running out of space to bury deceased migrants who died from brutal conditions and drownings while crossing the border. Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber said they are opening up new plots of land to bury the migrants, most of whom are unidentified.
