CNN released excerpts from a chilling phone call between a fourth-grade student and a 911 dispatcher during the May 24 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 children and two teachers dead.
“Please hurry. There’s a lot of dead bodies,” 10-year-old Khloe Torres told the dispatcher after explaining that she was in room 112, according to the excerpt. “Please send help.” (RELATED: Passer-by Makes Gruesome Discovery Of Body Hanging From Park Tree)

The dispatcher told Torres that everything was going to be ok and that she needed to stay silent. “I am. I am. Nobody’s listening to me,” Torres responded, according to the exchange. “I know how to handle these situations, my dad taught me when I was a little girl.”
“My teachers are still alive, but they’re shot,” she added.
When the dispatcher informed Torres that law enforcement was in the building, she relayed the message, telling her fourth-grade classmates to be silent, the excerpt revealed.
CNN correspondent Bianca Nobilo praised the young girl’s “astounding composure and bravery,” noting that Torres survived the shooting and that the network had Torres’ parents permissions to share portions of the call.
According to CNN, Torres’ revelation that an active shooter situation was ongoing should have triggered an immediate assault on the classroom. Instead, law enforcement waited outside the classroom for 77 minutes before finally shooting and killing the gunman. When parents tried to enter the school to save their children, police allegedly handcuffed and pepper sprayed them.
