Fox News host Jesse Watters declared New York a “war zone” Thursday evening after a 43-year-old woman was reportedly raped during a morning jog.

“New York is a war zone,” Watters said. “Just this morning a woman out jogging in the West Village by the Hudson River, a nice place, got raped.”

“The Democrats assembled an all-female dream team, Hillary, Kamala, Letitia James. They’re campaigning in on behalf of Kathy Hochul, who’s running for governor,” Watters said. “A Republican might win the governor’s mansion in New York, so they’re bringing out the big guns. She’s at risk of losing the seat in New York, now Democrats are on defense.” (RELATED: ‘Why You Have To Have Police’: Watters Says America’s ‘Crime Wave’ Finally Made Its Way To Pelosi’s House)

Police arrested a 29-year-old homeless man suspected of carrying out the Thursday morning sexual assault and two others, the New York Post reported, noting that the suspect had been arrested on 25 prior occasions. New York City‘s crime rates increased from 2021, a year in which six major cities reported record-high levels of violent crime.

New York City’s subway system saw murders reach a record level in the last three years despite declining ridership, according to the New York Post. Crime on the city’s subway system increased by 41%, CNN reported, with over 1,800 incidents as of Oct. 17.

Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York, who is seeking to unseat Hochul as governor, has campaigned on crime. A Trafalgar poll reported he and Hochul were tied.

“You talked about the jogger today in the west side of Manhattan as another example, and that was just earlier this morning,” Zeldin told Watters. “People see the videos, the pictures, they see the news reports. They want leadership.”

Hochul did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
