ABC News president Kim Godwin reportedly took Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes off-air, effective Monday.
Godwin announced she would be pulling the plug on Robach and Holmes’ 1 p.m time slot on “Good Morning America” (GMA) during an internal call, according to Page Six. Godwin said the pair’s alleged affair and subsequent relationship had proven too much of an “internal and external distraction,” according to Page Six.
“After a lot of thought I am taking Amy and T.J. off the air as we figure this out,” Godwin said, according to Page Six. Godwin reportedly said the alleged affair was “not a violation of company policy,” but that the anchors were removed as a necessary step for the “Good Morning America” brand.
Stephanie Ramos and Gio Benitez have been slated to host “GMA3” for the duration of the week while the network conducts further meetings to establish next steps and determine how best to handle the situation, according to Page Six.
Top “GMA” anchor Robin Roberts has reportedly taken particular issue with the scandal’s effect on the show. Roberts purportedly confronted Robach and Holmes and spoke to them about concerns related to their alleged affair. The alleged affair between Robach and Holmes made headlines after the pair was seen out at bars near ABC’s Midtown studios, according to Page Six.
