We finally got our man!

I remember being out running errands with my wife Jan. 29 and getting a notification on my phone reading, “Vic Fangio has been hired as the new defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins.” I was incredibly excited at the news, busting out a celebration right in the middle of the store embarrassing the hell out of my wife, and then … it happened.

Even though the deal was reported to be done, Fangio himself said that he hadn’t yet made a commitment to any team. He was also linked to the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers at the time.

Fast forward a few days later, and a deal now appears to officially be done between Fangio and the Dolphins, with the always-reliable Adam Schefter (of ESPN) first reporting that Fangio has agreed with Miami to become their defensive coordinator.

Holy crap, there’s so many reasons why I love this move from my Miami Dolphins.

First off, I love the fact that my owner Stephen Ross is spending money like a mad man to bring in the most elite talent that he can get. He nearly did it the previous year with Sean Payton and Tom Brady, and now he’s doing it this year with Vic Fangio. And then you have the other power moves like the Tyreek Hill and Bradley Chubb landings. None of this would have been possible without Mr. Ross, so I want to thank him first and foremost.

The Fangio pick-up is so elite because he’s without a doubt the best defensive coordinator in the NFL. It doesn’t matter where he went (Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans and Indianapolis Colts), he’s had success everywhere. And on top of that, he’s currently a consultant with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are now in the Super Bowl, with an opportunity for a ring that he can bring down to South Beach to show and motivate our players. Everything about this move is absolutely beautiful. Bradley Chubb, Jaelan Phillips, Jevon Holland, Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler — Wow, this defense is going to be so lethal with Fangio now in charge.

Oh, and it already has us as one of the favorites to win the AFC championship next season:

Oh yeah, big things coming soon for my Dolphins and my beloved city of Miami — shout out to the 305!
