This is the type of news that brings a smile to your face.

Chicago White Sox All-Star closing pitcher Liam Hendriks gloriously announced Thursday that he is officially in remission from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Hendriks took to Instagram to break the news that he is now cancer-free. “How It Started VS How It’s Going…. REMISSION. It’s official. I’m cancer free,” Hendriks wrote in the caption of his post, along with multiple videos and photos showing his treatment.

Hendricks finished up chemotherapy in early April after announcing his diagnosis back in January, according to the Associated Press (AP).

Hendriks is a three-time All-Star who had a flashy season in 2022, ranking third in MLB with 37 saves and making his third All-Star team. The Australian led the American League with 38 saves in 2021, which is also a career high for him. He signed a three-year, $54 million contract with the White Sox after leaving the Oakland Athletics.

Altogether in 12 seasons playing for the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, Athletics and now the White Sox, Hendriks has recorded 115 career saves and a solid 3.81 ERA.

This is awesome to hear.

Not only is Liam Hendriks a great human being and professional baseball player, he’s one of the best closers in the game today. After all, there’s a reason why the White Sox gave him that whopping contract — it’s cool to see him beating cancer so he can still collect that massive check. And yeah, I get there are some things more important than money, but still.

I can’t help but be happy for the guy, and for his pockets. It must be nice.
