Famous actor John Beasley, best known for his roles in “Everwood” and “The Soul Man,” died Tuesday in a hospital in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. He was 79.

John was in the hospital undergoing tests on his liver, when things suddenly took a turn, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Beasley’s son Mike confirmed his death by posting a tribute to his Facebook page. “Man…you know this is a part of life…but that doesn’t make it any easier,” he said. “I lost my best friend today. They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father.”

Mike concluded his heartfelt note by addressing his late father with some touching words. “Thank you for everything. I hope I made you proud. Love you more.” (RELATED: Reality TV Star Reveals She Woke Up In A Hospital After Suicide Attempt)

Beasley played school bus driver Irv Harper on “Everwood” and Barton Bellentine, the father of Cedric the Entertainer’s character, on the TV land comedy, “The Soul Man.” He was also featured in the films “The Apostle,” “Rudy,” and “The Sum of All Fears.”

The talented artist was set to make his Broadway debut this year in “The Notebook.”
