President Donald Trump’s former attorney Jenna Ellis broke down in court on Tuesday as she accepted a plea deal in the Fulton County, Georgia, case.

Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings. She spoke following her plea deal, saying she takes her responsibilities as an attorney “very seriously.”

“As an attorney who is also a Christian, I take my responsibilities as a lawyer very seriously, and I endeavor to be a person of morale and ethical character in all of my dealings. In the wake of the 2020 presidential election, I believed that challenging the results on behalf of President Trump should be pursued in a just and legal way,” Ellis said, speaking through tears. “I endeavored to represent my client to the best of my ability. I relied on others, including lawyers with many more years of experience than I to provide me with true and reliable information and especially since my role involved speaking to the media and legislators of various states. What I did not do, but should have done, your honor, is to make sure that the facts that the other lawyers alleged to be true were, in fact, true,” Ellis said.

“In the frenetic pace of attempting to raise challenges to the elections in several states including Georgia, I failed to do my due diligence. I believe in and I value election integrity, and if I knew then what I know now, I would have declined to represent Donald Trump in these post-election challenges, and I look back on this full experience with deep remorse. For those failures of mine, your honor, I have taken responsibility already before the Colorado Bar, who has censured me, and I now take responsibility before this court and I apologize to the people of Georgia. Thank you.”

Ellis’ plea deal comes days after Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell pleaded guilty as well. Chesebro pleaded guilty on Friday in Fulton County. Powell pleaded guilty to several misdemeanor charges and must testify against her co-defendants in future proceedings and write a written apology as part of the plea.

Chesebro pleaded guilty on Friday after he was accused of creating fake electors to help Trump win Georgia. Chesebro’s counsel argued he was simply offering legal counsel to the former president.
