“The View” co-host Joy Behar condemned Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Tuesday over her refusal to correct her statement blaming Israel for an explosion at a hospital in the Gaza Strip.
Tlaib has repeatedly parroted the accusation made by Hamas terrorists that an Israeli airstrike hit the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza City and killed over 500 people. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and U.S. intelligence agencies both concluded that the actual cause of the explosion was a missile launched by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a Hamas-allied terror group, and found no evidence that 500 people died.
The “Squad” member has yet to remove or correct her initial claim from Oct. 17, and has since doubled down on blaming Israel for the bombing.
Tlaib said in a Monday statement that she “cannot uncritically accept” the evidence of the Palestinian misfire and cited reports of Israel bombing several other medical facilities in Gaza. “The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin called out Tlaib and Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar for spreading “dangerous antisemitism” in recent weeks.
“She will still not admit that that attack on the hospital came from Hamas,” Behar said. “They have video showing it, but she goes out there and lies like [former President Donald] Trump.”
The Hamas-run health ministry, which initially made the claims, has yet to provide any information on the alleged 471 victims who they say were killed, and the impact site has turned out to be the hospital parking lot, not the building itself, according to The New York Times.
Omar previously cited Hamas’ claims accusing Israel of carrying out the bombing, but retracted her statements after Israel and U.S. disputed the claims.
“Our office cited an AP report yesterday that the IDF had hit a Baptist hospital in Gaza. Since then, the IDF denied responsibility and the US intelligence assessment is that this was not done by Israel,” Omar said in an Oct. 18 statement. “It is a reminder that information is often unreliable and disputed in the fog of war (especially on Twitter where misinformation is rampant). We all have a responsibility to ensure information we are sharing is from credible sources and to acknowledge as new reports come in.”
The corporate media also quickly stealth-edited its initial reports, which tended to take Hamas’ claims at face value. CNN published a piece with the headline “Israel hits hospital and school in Gaza as blockade cripples healthcare system,” but later changed it to “Hundreds likely dead in Gaza hospital blast, as Israeli blockade cripples medical response.”
