The Biden administration handed an award to a top immigration official who advocated to “abolish” Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas honored Avideh Moussavian, chief of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service’s (USCIS) Office of Policy & Strategy, and her team for expanding legal processes for migrants to enter the U.S., the agency said in a statement Wednesday. Moussavian tweeted in 2018, before she began her tenure with the Biden administration, the hashtag “abolishICE,” saying the agency was “misleading the public and making our workplaces less safe.” (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Feds Warn That Hamas, Hezbollah Could Be Crossing Southern Border)

“This cross-component team collectively designed, developed, and implemented a new process to enable individuals who have U.S.-based supporters to be considered for and granted authorization to travel to the United States and seek parole at the port of entry,” DHS said in the statement regarding the team’s award.

In 2019, Moussavian said that we should “defund” ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) , according to a tweet. Between 2013 and 2019, Moussavian worked between for the National Immigration Law Center (NILC), which has also advocated for defunding ICE and CBP and ending immigration detention.

The Biden administration credits Moussavian with helping implement humanitarian parole programs to admit migrants from Ukraine, Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela, her USCIS bio states.

“I think it’s apparent from the top on down that this is an administration filled with appointees that do not believe in the rule of law, and they don’t really care about the American people,” Rob Law, who is currently the director of America First Policy Institute’s Center for Homeland Security & Immigration, previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation of Moussavian.

DHS didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
