An insider quietly claimed in late October that Kevin Costner will not be reprising his role of John Dutton in the iconic “Yellowstone” series.

Hollywood insider Matt Belloni said on “The Town” podcast that, as far as he’s aware, Costner has no plans to return for the final half of season five, which will conclude the epic Taylor Sheridan co-created saga.

“Yellowstone will probably go back into production at the beginning of the year. So it could be out this spring or summer. Scripts are already written, I’m told, or are being written. And the question is whether Costner is in those final episodes of this season of ‘Yellowstone.’ And my understanding is that, as of now, he is not going to be in those episodes,” Belloni said of the situation with the series.

Rumors have swirled over Costner’s return, and he has even hinted at suing the show. He’ll probably be remembered for this role more than any of his others … ever.

Belloni is best known for being the first person to reveal tensions rising between Sheridan and Costner. “[Costner’s] ego and his unavailability” apparently frustrated Sheridan, Belloni said at the time. It was a rumor that essentially turned out to be mostly accurate, in so many words.  (RELATED: ‘Yellowstone’ Star Doesn’t Sound Confident About Kevin Costner’s Return To The Series)

It’s almost impossible to see how “Yellowstone” would end without Costner. But thankfully, two new spin-offs are on the docket to start as soon as the original series is over. And cast from the main show are expected to take part!
