Former CNN host Brian Stelter admitted Tuesday on the Fourth Watch podcast Daily Caller co-founder and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson did “this country a favor” after the 2020 election by speaking out against Sidney Powell.

Stelter said there is “no reason” to believe Fox News fired Carlson over Dominion, instead arguing the Dominion issue raised other questions about his behavior.

“Dominion liked Tucker as a witness. They wanted Tucker on the stand to help their case,” Stelter argued. “Tucker bashed Sidney Powell in November of 2020. Tucker did this country a favor, by the way, by going on the air and saying, ‘We like Sidney Powell. We wanna see her evidence, but she won’t show it to us, so we’re skeptical.’ And then, Sidney Powell complained about him. He worked over the weekend to engineer stories about Sidney Powell … there’s a story planted with the Washington Examiner saying that Sidney Powell has lost the trust of the Trump family. The Trump White House doesn’t believe her, and by Sunday night, Trump has disavowed Sidney Powell.”

“And then Tucker, in these private messages that we’ve now all read, takes credit for it. And I’m serious. He did the country a favor because he helped to remove one of those big liars about the big lie,” Stelter said.

Fox News fired Carlson in April, though the reasons surrounding his departure were undisclosed. Carlson told Russell Brand he was not anticipating being let go and was just as shocked as the rest of the world.
