Authorities in New York are searching for a man allegedly involved in a “sexually motivated” home invasion Wednesday, Law&Crime reported.

The police are intensifying their search for an unidentified man who entered an apartment and attempted to lie down next to a 23-year-old woman who was asleep in her bed, according to Law&Crime. The alleged intruder was startled when the woman woke up, prompting him to flee on foot, the police said in a statement, according to Law&Crime. No physical injuries were reported in the incident. The New York Police Department released a detailed description of the suspect: a male with a dark complexion, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue hat, glasses, a black hooded sweatshirt, a black and white jacket, beige sweatpants and light-colored shoes. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward to contact the city’s Crime Stoppers Hotline or visit their website.

Bolbir Sing, a 34-year-old local convenience store worker, recognized the suspect as a frequent visitor and occasional shoplifter in the area, the New York Post reported.

“Sometimes [he] comes into my store,” Sing said. “He comes with a group of four or five others. Usually comes in the evening around 7 p.m. Sometimes he steals beer and candy.”

Resident Kristen M. expressed her relief that the woman was unharmed.

“Thank God she’s okay. That’s the scariest thing. Completely defenseless,” she said, according to the New York Post. “It wouldn’t matter if you had a gun or whatever, it doesn’t matter. Agh!”
