An absolutely enormous storm system is forecast to blanket a majority of the North American continent between January 8 – 11. The time to prepare is now.

Significant weather impacts are expected from coast to coast by Sunday night through Monday morning, following an earlier weather system that will strike the northeastern U.S. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Snow is likely to start on Sunday night, and parts of the country may experience freezing precipitation until Thursday.

“Expect disruptions to daily life,” NWS warned in a tweet.

The winds associated with the second, larger system, will be “unusually strong,” and impacts will be felt first on the west coast, before it travels across the interior and reaches the eastern shores by Tuesday and Wednesday. An area from Georgia and Tennessee up to New England will likely experience gusts of more than 50 mph, with a possible chance of the same occurring all the way through to New Mexico.

Coastal flooding is anticipated on the East Coast as rain, thunderstorms, and snow blanket the region. (RELATED: Videos Show Floods, Snow Causing Mass Damage And Chaos In California)

There’s also a chance a third major storm might fly over the country following these next two, but that remains to be seen, according to a group of meteorological enthusiasts. NWS also warned that there will be a “widespread arctic air outbreak” through January 12 – 18 as a high pressure system travels over Greenland.

Temperatures and wind chills seem set to stay well below freezing. During the same time in 2023, almost 100 people lost their lives to extreme weather in parts of New England and California. The time to prepare for these storm systems is now. Ensure you have food, water, blankets, and any medicines you require at home.

And don’t forget to buy extra dog food.
