Sydney Sweeney is the current “it” girl in Hollywood, but one of the most influential Hollywood Producers, Carol Baum, is definitely not a fan.
Baum, producer of box office hits “Father of the Bride,” and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” knows a thing or two about making movies, and she’s a hard-no when it comes to bringing Sweeney on for a role, according to Daily Mail. Baum recently spoke with New York Times film critic, Janet Maslin, in front of a screening audience of her 1988 film, “Dead Ringers,” and seized the opportunity to rip into Sweeney, the outlet reported.
“She’s not pretty, she can’t act,” Baum reportedly told Maslin, before she continued her criticism of the star.
Baum unleashed on Sweeney’s skill set for the job.
“There’s an actress who everybody loves now – Sydney Sweeney,” she told Maslin, according to Daily Mail.
“I don’t get Sydney Sweeney. I was watching on the plane Sydney Sweeney’s movie because I wanted to watch it,” she reportedly said, referencing “Anyone But You.”
“I wanted to know who she is and why everybody’s talking about her,” she told Maslin and the crowd, Daily Mail reported.
She then expressed how she really felt about the experience.
“I watched this unwatchable movie- sorry to people who love this movie – [this] romantic comedy where they hate each other,” she reportedly said.
Baum then referenced the USC School of Cinematic Arts producing class she instructs, by recalling how she polled them for their opinions on the famous actress, according to Daily Mail.
“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?”” she reportedly asked.
It seemed her students were not quick to defend Sweeney at all.
“Nobody had an answer but then the question was asked, ‘Well if you could get your movie made because she was in it, would you do it?'” Baum continued, the Daily Mail reported
“I said, ‘Well that’s a really good question…that’s a very hard question to answer because we all want to get the movie made and who walks away from a green light? Nobody I know. Your job is to get the movie made,'” Baum reportedly recalled.
Baum didn’t cite any other reasons for not jumping on the Sweeney-bandwagon in her interview with Maslin, other than she didn’t think she had the chops or the looks to pull off a career in Hollywood. (RELATED: Sydney Sweeney Reveals The Secret Behind Her Fit Physique)
Sweeney rose to fame in “Euphoria,” and quickly became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stars. She has starred in three films over the span of the past six months, “Immaculate,” “Madame Web” and “Anyone But You.”
