Holy hell … what’s going on in Madison?

The Wisconsin men’s basketball program is utterly collapsing in real-time, with the latest example being guard Chucky Hepburn exiting the team and entering the transfer portal — this just a day after guard AJ Storr reportedly left the Badgers for Kansas in a purported $1 million deal.

In a move that was a stunner to the Wisconsin faithful, Hepburn made the announcement Thursday on Instagram that he’s decided to play his senior year with another school, effectively ending his run with the Badgers. It’s a decision that officially puts Wisconsin men’s basketball into “when it rains, it pours” mode, because things are bad — really, really bad. Hepburn joins a handful of players who have left Madison. We’ve already brought up Storr’s exit to become a Jayhawk, but you also have the fact that forward Tyler Wahl is out (eligibility) and guard Connor Essegian is currently in the transfer portal.

And did I mention that all of this is coming after an embarrassing first-round defeat in March Madness to small-school James Madison University?

Yeah … things are pretty bad at Wisconsin right now.

It’s gotta be tough to be a fan of Wisconsin or some other mid-tier school here in the NIL era.

This is something that these particular fans are going to have to get used to, rosters are going to change dramatically every year because of the top universities’ spending habits.

This is college athletics in 2024 … the wild, wild west.
