Famous actor Dermot Mulroney said he believes the way he was positioned in the poster ads for “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” ultimately cost him future roles.

Mulroney starred alongside Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett in the classic 1997 hit film that went on to clinch an Oscar nomination. The romantic comedy became a staple in pop culture and has since remained a classic in its genre. However, Mulroney said it took quite some time for him to find new acting roles after “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and he thinks it’s because he wasn’t prominently featured in the ads for the movie, according to The New York Times.

Mulroney explained it was a full year after the release of the blockbuster rom-com before he was able to land another acting job.

“I was sitting there ready for the gift with purchase that was supposed to come along with being in a popular movie, and instead, I probably didn’t work for a year,” he told The New York Times.

He evaluated the situation and came to a conclusion.

“I chalked it up to me being so tiny on the poster, the little guy on the cake,” Mulroney said.

“I thought, gosh, you guys, if you’d made me a little bigger, maybe I could have gotten a job.”

The famous actor eventually went on to land dozens of other jobs in Hollywood, but it’s clear he still questions the visuals used to promote “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” (RELATED: ‘She’s Not Pretty, She Can’t Act’: Hollywood Producer Carol Baum Rips Into Sydney Sweeney: REPORT)

His latest rom-com appearance happens to be alongside the “it” girl of the year, Sydney Sweeney, in “Anyone but You,” as he takes on the role of her father in the film.

Mulroney told Glen Powell, who played the male love interest in the film, not to dismiss the emotional resonance romantic comedies can have for viewers, according to The New York Times.

“‘What these movies mean to people … will last for decades.’ It will last until after you’re gone in a way that maybe the other cool stuff he’s doing won’t. It has a different kind of absorption”

Mulroney has starred in numerous productions, including the films “The Grey,” “The Mountain Between Us” and “Scream VII.”

“My Best Friend’s Wedding” earned over $127 million in U.S. theaters and a roughly equivalent amount of ticket sales worldwide after being filmed on a $38 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
