Multiple crates of live chicken blocked a New York City street early Monday, the New York Post reported.
No fewer than 15 crates were strewn across a two-block stretch up to the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway’s Cadman Plaza exit ramp around 6 a.m., the New York Post reported, citing a New York City Police Department (NYPD) spokesperson.
The crates reportedly had fallen off a delivery truck along the stretch, apparently unbeknownst to the driver, and slowed down the rush hour traffic.
NYPD officers reportedly cleared the crates from the street and took the chickens to a secure location. Motorists slowly rolled past, wondering why the chickens had been across the road, the outlet noted. (RELATED: Chickens On The Loose After Tractor-Trailer Crash)

The number of chickens in each crate could not immediately be determined. Neither the identity of the company that owned the delivery truck nor that of the truck driver was immediately clear, according to the New York Post.
A truckload of live chickens caught fire on Staten Island last May, according to a separate New York Post report. The incident occurred on the Staten Island Expressway near Western Avenue at about 6:40 a.m. and required the intervention of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). While no one was reported injured in the blaze, an undetermined number of chickens reportedly did not survive.
